I’m 21 years old, and I am a senior in Cornell University’s College of Engineering, majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I’ve been into science and engineering most of my life, and thus you’ll notice that all the interesting stuff on this website will revolve around that. I’m a Student First…but not Really…

I’m currently pursuing my undergraduate EE degree at Cornell, and I can proudly say that 90% of my education does NOT come from the classroom. While I do work hard in my classes, I expend the majority of my time and effort building open source hardware and software, producing freelance video tutorials and projects, leading sustainable engineering efforts, doing research, and trying to soak up information just about any way I can. I’m a very strong believer and promoter of the “learn by doing” motto.

My Work at Cornell University (outside the classroom)

• I founded and lead Cornell University Sustainable Design, an interdisciplinary group that pursues environmentally inspired design-build projects.
• I’m an undergraduate researcher in the Creative Machines Lab, where I have researched Machine Metabolism, Stochastic Modular Assembly, and personal fabrication technology.
• I’m one of Cornell’s 25 “most mysterious” seniors.
• I’m a Rawlings Cornell Presidential Research Scholar.
• I’m a recipient of the 2011 Kessler Fellowship for Engineering and Entrepreneurship.
• I was selected by IEEE to be their “New Face of Engineering (College Edition).”
• I am a member of the committee responsible for garnering student and alumni support Cornell’s new NYC Tech Campus.
• I hold a seat on the President’s Sustainable Campus Committee.
• I am an active member of Cornell’s Entrepreneurship Network.
• I was a team leader for Cornell’s 2009 entry into the Solar Decathlon Competition.
• I’m the technology director for the Every1Campaign, a group aiming to reduce non-consensual sex on campus.

I’m a “Maker,” a Teacher, and a “Hacker” (the good kind of hacker)

• I’ve built tons of open source projects, from jack-in-the-box toys, to nerf sentry guns, to gesture recognition control systems.
• Sometimes, my work shows up somewhere awesome, like the Discovery Channel.
• I work for MakerBot Industries, designing the electronics that power their personal 3D Printers.
• My popular Arduino Tutorial Series helps many people take their first steps into Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
• My TechBits video series provides an in-depth look at loads of computer-building and engineering concepts.
• I encourage derivative versions of my projects, and I post them on my blog.
• I blog for element14 about engineering topics that fascinate me.
• I love to speak and lead workshops on sustainability and engineering.
